Sweet Mamaliga

Hey guys this week was a very solid first one here in Pitesti!!!

Fountain in Central Pitesti
Tuesday was the day I said goodbye to Bucuresti and hello to Pitesti. The train ride was pretty simple so nothing big their but when I got to Pitesti, I learned that this place is super awesome!! Such a beautiful city!! And so begins the tales of me and Elder Solov'iov. He is such a great guy and I know I am going to love him. We didn't do much except some contacting and some block knocking but good things are going to come from all that.

Wednesday was my first full day in Pitesti and we did some pretty solid things. In the morning we did some contacting and I was able to get 6 numbers in about an hour or so. That is a testament of a great city and great people. All of them are super people and I hope that they continue to progress. We then had a lesson with a member named Marius and we talked about trials and how we need to rely on the Lord to press forward. As it says in the Book of Mormon, "press forward with a steadfastness in Christ" (2 Nephi 31:20). Have faith in Christ and have Him as your foundation as you go forward in life.

Thursday, I said hello to Bucuresti again as we had Zone Conference!! That was such a cool experience and this zone conference was really special. We talked about how this zone is really finding success and doing great things in the work. Now it is time to step up and continue working hard to grow and be better than we were. We focused a lot on the Spirit and how we can have the Spirit guide us in the work. I think that is such a great thing to talk about because we need to be one with the Spirit in order to be effective servants of the Lord. Zone conference was a blast and then on the train ride home, we talked to this girl named Vera and that turned into a great language study for us and in turn, helped us talk about the church a little more so that was super fun.

Friday, we had a lesson with an investigator named Victoria. We talked about prayer and how it is essential for us to receive personal revelation and to know the truth of all things. We committed her to read the Book of Mormon and pray. We then felt it appropriate to extend a baptismal invitation to her and she said she wants to be baptized. We are pumped for her and will help her to be prepared for a date in the future.

Saturday was a pretty chill day. More contacting as usual, but overall this week we rocked contacting and got a good amount of numbers and potential people to meet up with. We then had games night where Elder Solov'iov made some really nice sweet mamaliga (cornbread) and it was really good.

My Comp!  Elder Solov'iov from Ukraine

Sunday, we had church and I was able to meet the branch members and everyone is so stinking awesome! When the branch president was introducing me in sacrament meeting, he said I was from Iowa and told everyone about the U.S.S. Iowa so that was pretty cool, haha. We were fortunate to have Victoria come to church and also a guy named Mihai who I met on the street. He said he really loved church and just felt really good. We gave him a Book of Mormon and now are going to meet with him this week!

View from our balcony!

And actually, today we had a lesson with another guy named Mihai and we had a solid time together. He wants to follow the example of Christ, he wants to show his faith to Him, so we extended a baptismal invitation and he accepted. We also established a date for him which is May 17 so be excited for that!! The work is progressing here in Pitesti and I am super glad to be a part of it!!

I miss you all and love you all to death! Keep rocking the world and being children of GOD!!!!

Stand Ye in Holy Places

Hey everyone!!! So this was a really big week and a good amount of things went down, but I don't have all the time to talk about them, so I'll just give you all the basics! Bowen and Hoisington in the street! So the highlight and downfall of this week was when we set a baptismal date with Felix for about 24 hours. So we met up with him this week and we had a lesson about the Plan of Salvation. We had Fratele Matei with us and he was a big help for us because he loves this lesson. So we teach and it went really well and we set a date for August 18th! We were happy, Matei was happy, it was great. But we were talking with him at night and he said he no longer had any faith. So naturally, we meet up with him again and it was an interesting meeting. Essentially he is looking for historical evidence that the Book of Mormon is true and he doesn't have that evidence that it is true. So, we dropped his date and we won't be meeting with him anymore until he starts having ...

Day 1 - to the Provo Missionary Training Center

Day 1 (from David not Cole) The day began so early.  We arrived at the Des Moines Airport at 4:30 for a 6:00 Flight.  Checking in was no problem, but it became real that this was the first steps in embarking on this two year adventure. Saying goodbye was hard for all, but we all kept it all together. The itinerary took Cole from Des Moines to Dallas-Fort Worth to Salt Lake City.  He fortunately met up with a couple other missionaries enroute to the Provo Missionary Training Center (MTC). Aunt Lisa met Cole at the airport.  The flight was slightly delayed, but they were able to get out of Salt Lake quickly as his bags were the first off the plane. We spoke with Cole as they traveled to Provo.  He was in good spirits, and proud to have navigated security, connections, gate changes, and all that excitement. In Provo, he also met up with his Aunt Sara and her family (Uncle Simon, Kajsa, Brynn, Maya, Isak) and Uncle Scott and his family (Aun...

"Whatever it is, we are against it" - Romania?

Hey everyone it was a pretty great week in Bucuresti! Tuesday we had exchanges with the Zone Leaders and I went with Elder Krylborn. He's a pretty awesome guy and we had a really solid day! We spoke in Romanian for a good amount of the day and focused a lot on how to keep accountable with the goals we have set. Overall, it was a great day and we were able to see a lot of success because of our hard work!   At a mall in Bucharest - me being me Wednesday we didn't do much overall except we had someone try to fix our hot water and have it ultimately fail so they told us they would try again the next day. So that was fun? Thursday we had a good day as we met with a member named Fang Shuang (he's from China) do his Family History so that was pretty awesome!! We also got some pretty great lunch with him so that was pretty great! We then had a lesson with a man named Florian who ended up being super awesome! We taught a 30 minute Restoration and he ab...
