Week 5 Checked Off!

Well hello all you beautiful people!! This week has been a roller coaster so I will bless your lives with my wisdom!

Romania!
To start off, it is my 1 month anniversary!! 23 more months to go! But who is counting honestly??

Sunday was fast Sunday in the MTC and boy was it an interesting one. I never truly appreciated the cafeteria food more than probably Sunday. But it was such a spiritual day and I loved being able to share my testimony to my branch. For the lessons throughout the day, we were blessed to have President Martino, President of the MTC, in all our branch meetings and lessons. It was honestly quite scary cause it was my first Sunday leading as a zone leader. But all his comments and counsel were very awesome and we were blessed to have him with us for the day. The devotional was also pretty awesome cause the Martinos were the devotional speakers! They talked about striving to be perfect in this world even though we may mess up along our path. I also liked Sister Martino's comment "This church is a safe haven for us sinners, not a country club for the righteous." It was pretty sweet mainly cause she is from Arkansas and had that Southern vibe about her which made it awesome!

My Zone at the Provo LDS Temple

My MTC District (Bowen, Ward, Atkinson, Colt, Staley, Sheffield)

Monday was a pretty relaxed day and nothing really happened. My district began to focus on the Christlike attribute of hope though and it was pretty awesome to discuss it as a district. Hope is having the faith that if we act now, God will bless us in his own due time. The key word in that is WILL. God will bless us only if we exercise hope and faith and have charity and all the other great attributes of Christ. It really is inspiring and I hope that my hope continues to grow on my mission.

Tuesday was an overall great day except for the fact that Elder Atkinson had a terrible headache the entire day. He was able to sleep for most of the day though, which gave me an opportunity to read in the scriptures. I focused on hope and charity in my studies and loved Moroni 7:47 . It talks about the blessings of charity and hope and I felt very happy to have this verse basically help me as I increase hope and charity in my lives. Tuesday was also a big devotional day in which Elder Christofferson came to speak to us. Him and his wife gave super great talks which applied greatly in my lives. Sister Christofferson talked about hope and charity and the importance each of those have in our lives. Elder Christofferson talked about the importance of the Book of Mormon which was super awesome to hear!

Wednesday was rough because Elder Atkinson still had a huge headache and was limited in our classes. I was able to read the Book of Mormon more and it was great to do while Elder Atkinson was resting. We also started to teach each others and have each of us be an investigator which was very weird but fun cause I get to see how it is being someone who doesn't understand the gospel or anything and how tough it is for the missionaries to make every lesson personal for the investigator. It was a great start and I can't wait to continue that experience in the MTC.

Thursday was still rough for Elder Atkinson and I feel super bad for the pain he is in. But he is been super strong with his stress headache and I envy his strength and willingness to go on. The day was really fun especially because we got to play volleyball as a zone because the Italian missionaries are leaving on Monday. It's sad to see them leave but it is great to know they are off to tackle Italy and serve the Lord. Because of Elder Atkinson's headache, we left class early and he went to bed at 7:30. While he was sleeping, me and Elder Ward listened to some conference talks to pass the time. My favorite of the evening was a talk from Richard G. Scott in 2010 that was about faith and character and how we need to improve and increase our faith to make our character appear brighter with the Light of Christ. Super inspiring and I recommend everyone listening to it ( https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2010/10/the-transforming-power-of-faith-and-character?lang=eng ).

Today was a chill day but Elder Atkinson was still struggling with his headache. He stayed in bed and I stayed behind and let everyone else go to the temple today. I stayed back and read some scriptures from 2 Nephi 31 .  It talks about the gospel of Jesus Christ and how we must have faith, repent, be baptized, receive the Holy Ghost, and endure to the end to receive eternal life. That is basically the purpose of a missionary is to invite others to come unto Christ through these 5 things. Super awesome!!! Plus Elder Atkinson was able to go to the doctor's and he is doing better with all the drugs he now has haha. We were also pleased to watch the dedication of the new MTC buildings which was also pretty amazing. President Eyring and Elder Oaks were in attendance and it was super awesome to see them!

That is about it for my week! I love you all and hope and pray all of you are safe and having a great time in life! VA IUBESC!!!!!

Va pup,
Elder Bowen

Stand Ye in Holy Places

Hey everyone!!! So this was a really big week and a good amount of things went down, but I don't have all the time to talk about them, so I'll just give you all the basics! Bowen and Hoisington in the street! So the highlight and downfall of this week was when we set a baptismal date with Felix for about 24 hours. So we met up with him this week and we had a lesson about the Plan of Salvation. We had Fratele Matei with us and he was a big help for us because he loves this lesson. So we teach and it went really well and we set a date for August 18th! We were happy, Matei was happy, it was great. But we were talking with him at night and he said he no longer had any faith. So naturally, we meet up with him again and it was an interesting meeting. Essentially he is looking for historical evidence that the Book of Mormon is true and he doesn't have that evidence that it is true. So, we dropped his date and we won't be meeting with him anymore until he starts having ...

Day 1 - to the Provo Missionary Training Center

Day 1 (from David not Cole) The day began so early.  We arrived at the Des Moines Airport at 4:30 for a 6:00 Flight.  Checking in was no problem, but it became real that this was the first steps in embarking on this two year adventure. Saying goodbye was hard for all, but we all kept it all together. The itinerary took Cole from Des Moines to Dallas-Fort Worth to Salt Lake City.  He fortunately met up with a couple other missionaries enroute to the Provo Missionary Training Center (MTC). Aunt Lisa met Cole at the airport.  The flight was slightly delayed, but they were able to get out of Salt Lake quickly as his bags were the first off the plane. We spoke with Cole as they traveled to Provo.  He was in good spirits, and proud to have navigated security, connections, gate changes, and all that excitement. In Provo, he also met up with his Aunt Sara and her family (Uncle Simon, Kajsa, Brynn, Maya, Isak) and Uncle Scott and his family (Aun...

"Whatever it is, we are against it" - Romania?

Hey everyone it was a pretty great week in Bucuresti! Tuesday we had exchanges with the Zone Leaders and I went with Elder Krylborn. He's a pretty awesome guy and we had a really solid day! We spoke in Romanian for a good amount of the day and focused a lot on how to keep accountable with the goals we have set. Overall, it was a great day and we were able to see a lot of success because of our hard work!   At a mall in Bucharest - me being me Wednesday we didn't do much overall except we had someone try to fix our hot water and have it ultimately fail so they told us they would try again the next day. So that was fun? Thursday we had a good day as we met with a member named Fang Shuang (he's from China) do his Family History so that was pretty awesome!! We also got some pretty great lunch with him so that was pretty great! We then had a lesson with a man named Florian who ended up being super awesome! We taught a 30 minute Restoration and he ab...
